When you place a bid on Mazedna, you are making a legal commitment to purchase the lot at that price if no higher bid follows before the auction closes. There are no take-backs. Bid only what you are prepared to pay.
Standard bidding. Enter the amount you want to bid. If it exceeds the current highest bid by at least the minimum increment, your bid is accepted. The current highest bid updates. You are now the leading bidder.
Proxy bidding. Enter the maximum you are willing to pay. Mazedna's system will bid on your behalf — in the smallest increment necessary to keep you in the lead — up to your maximum. Your maximum is never revealed to other bidders.
If two bidders have overlapping proxy maximums, the one who set their proxy first holds the lead at the point where the two maximums meet.
| Current bid | Minimum increment |
|---|---|
| Under $50 | $1 |
| $50 – $199.99 | $2 |
| $200 – $999.99 | $5 |
| $1,000 – $4,999.99 | $25 |
| $5,000 – $24,999.99 | $100 |
| $25,000 – $99,999.99 | $250 |
| $100,000 and above | $1,000 |
The step above is what your bid must clear the current bid by. When proxy bidding settles a contest, the price lands one step above the ceiling it beat — and the step used is the one for that price level, not for the price the lot started from. So a lot at $40 where one bidder holds a $2,000 ceiling and another bids $3,000 settles at $2,025, because the step at $2,000 is $25.
Some lots carry a reserve — a minimum price below which the seller is not obliged to sell. If the auction closes without meeting the reserve, the lot is unsold and you are not charged.
The reserve is a floor the bidding rises to. As soon as any bidder’s maximum reaches it, the price moves straight to the reserve — so a lot with a $300 reserve and a single bidder whose maximum is $500 stands at $300 and sells, rather than sitting at the starting price and going unsold.
Lots with a reserve show "Reserve not met" until the reserve is reached, at which point it shows "Reserve met." The reserve amount itself is not disclosed until it is met.
An auction closes at exactly its published end time. There is no automatic extension: a bid placed in the final second does not lengthen the auction, and a bid that arrives after the end time is rejected.
So if a lot matters to you, set your maximum with proxy bidding ahead of time. Your proxy bids on your behalf up to that maximum without you having to be present at the close.
If another bidder surpasses you, you will receive an immediate notification — by email and, if enabled, by push. You can raise your bid at any time before the auction closes.
The highest bid when the auction closes wins the lot. In the event of a tie (only possible if both bids were placed identically before proxy bidding resolves), the earlier bid wins.
Winners are notified immediately. There is no separate payment step: your bid amount plus the buyer fee was held from your wallet the moment you bid, and it converts to Mazedna escrow automatically when the auction closes.
The only payment paths with a deadline are offers: an accepted offer or a runner-up offer must be settled from your wallet within 3 days, or the win is forfeited and the lot is offered elsewhere. Failing to settle records a strike on your account under the Fair-Play Policy; repeated non-payment results in account suspension.
